Negotiations for personal space, 2016 (on going)
Photo series, documenting personal performance with sculptural elements.
The work relates to a diagram describing the concentric rings of public, social, private and intimate space, or the relative distance to the body (which is at the centre of the diagram).
The work imagines the role of social media - which functions in all of this 'rings' simultaneously. Moving from the 2D diagram to 3D, the bronze bars describe the rings, and their length accurately cut to produce a series of sculptural elements. In the performance documented in the photos, the sections are physically reconfigured, understood and related back to the physical body. Over time, the fingerprint marks left by the performance gradually appear upon the bronze.
