Dear productivity, my life is more in doing less.
I have long-covid, which still continues since spring 2020, or the first wave.
Having ME/CFS already made me susceptible and, in the same (difficult) breath, made me already aware of the socio-politics of disability and chronic illness, particularly of the socio-medical abuse of post-viral conditions like this.
I already knew in advanced when long-covid came, that there is no stopping to recover, though for sure I know rest, because recovery to some kind of idealist ‘normal’ neither exists and neither comes. There is only new rhythms to sound out, finding new strategies of working and life, slowly carried in time in new ways. I develop my practice again differently, we evolve, and I have been re-shaping my ongoing phd thesis in this time, as a praxis part-time, and as an ongoing response.
A life with fatigue is in opposition to neoliberal capitalism. In failure there is woke. Fuck the omnipresent demand of productivity, it is ableist from its core.
The gaps on my cv since 2020 or so, are not holes but a language making a claim on contemporary art as the place that should be challenging the order that seeps all over, in brag culture and fomo-ing social media, the unsaid logic of visibility and presence, that which must be perpetually renewed, ever fresh, considered wilted as soon as a project has emerged. It is a life held under endless scroll. There are #millionsmissing.
I want more in less.
